History

Cordelia Chase was born with a golden spoon in her mouth. She had everything - friends, money, social status, power. Then in a cruel twist everything was taken away from her, and soon she found her way to Los Angeles to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress - but more importantly, to leave behind her old life in Sunnydale.

During a party she attended in the hopes of attracting several talent scouts, Cordelia ran into Angel - an old acquaintance from Sunnydale. Their meeting was brief, their conversation less than memorable, but it unknowingly became the catalyst for their future together. Soon, after Angel had saved her from a vampire, Cordelia began to work for him - despite his reservations and desire to remain detached to humanity.

It was through the death of their friend, Doyle, that Cordelia inherited the gift of foresight. However, this transition came with a price: along with the visions, Doyle passed on to Cordelia the pain in receiving them. Despite this setback Cordelia managed to use this 'gift' for the good of all - not to mention for their own financial needs. With the addition of Wesley, another alumni of Sunnydale, and later on Gunn, a fighter from the streets of LA, and Fred, a genius they had saved from another dimension, they formed Angel Investigations - a detective agency where people with supernatural problems could come and, for a minimal fee, have their problems solved. Of course, there was still the case of the helpless people in Cordelia's visions, which the gang prioritized, attempted and managed to save.

With her gift becoming too risky to bear - to the point where Cordelia had become comatose after a particularly violent vision - it came as a great relief to her when a demon offered her a loophole: she could keep the visions, but should become half-demon in the process. This Cordelia accepted with open arms; at least now she could still be of help to Angel and the others without worrying about her own life in the process.

Personality

She had been the Queen Bee in her high school - and true to its form, she was vain, petty, sarcastic, and superficial. She cared more about fashion and social status than anything else. But the difficult times had tamed these characteristics somewhat - yes she was still sarcastic and cared about fashion, but under the smart mouth and nice clothes lied the heart of a true champion, who had undergone many hardships to be who she was now. She was willing to endure the pain of the visions to the point of death only because she feared she would be worthless to her friends without them, and because her eyes had been opened to those helpless souls who needed their help.

Cordelia was also known for her being blunt to the point of tactlessness. It was a trait that both endeared her to and annoyed her friends, whom she loved and treated as her family. She was unwilling to give up even in the most difficult situations, and her loyalty to those who had earned her trust was deep. She had been a great influence in humanizing the reclusive vampire Angel, with whom she shared a very meaningful bond.
